Baked Ziti with Ground Beef and Ricotta

  • Author: Avery
  • Total Time: 55 minutes
  • Yield: 6 servings 1x

Description

This cozy baked ziti layers tender pasta, hearty ground beef, creamy ricotta, and plenty of melty cheese for a bubbly, golden-topped classic. It’s simple to prep, feeds a crowd, and tastes even better the next day.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ziti pasta
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Cook the ziti according to package directions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef with the onion and garlic until the beef is browned and the onion is translucent, 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  4. Stir in marinara, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Simmer 5 minutes.
  5. In a large bowl, combine the cooked ziti, beef sauce, ricotta, and half of the mozzarella. Mix until evenly coated.
  6. Transfer to a 9×13-inch baking dish. Top with remaining mozzarella and the Parmesan.
  7. Cover with foil and bake 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake 10–15 minutes more, until the cheese is bubbly and lightly browned.
  8. Let cool a few minutes before serving. Garnish with fresh basil, if desired.

Notes

  • Salt pasta water generously (it should taste like the sea) for best flavor.
  • Cook pasta to just al dente so it doesn’t soften too much in the oven.
  • If the top browns too quickly, tent loosely with foil for the last few minutes.
