Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuits (cut into quarters)
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups frozen hashbrowns (thawed)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp onion powder (optional)
  • ½ tsp paprika (optional, for color and flavor)
  • 1 tbsp butter (for greasing the baking dish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven – Set your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cook the Sausage – In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned. Drain excess grease if needed.
  3. Make the Gravy – Sprinkle the cooked sausage with flour and stir for 1 minute to coat. Slowly add the milk, stirring continuously, until the mixture thickens. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble the Casserole – In the greased baking dish, layer the thawed hashbrowns evenly. Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheese over the hashbrowns. Pour the sausage gravy over the cheese.
  5. Add the Biscuits – Evenly place the quartered biscuit pieces on top of the sausage gravy.
  6. Bake – Bake uncovered for 25-30 minutes or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through.
  7. Top with Cheese – Sprinkle the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese over the casserole and bake for another 5 minutes, or until melted.
  8. Serve & Enjoy – Let the casserole cool for a few minutes before serving. Enjoy with hot sauce or extra gravy on the side!

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the sausage gravy.
  • This casserole can be assembled the night before and stored in the fridge for an easy, ready-to-bake breakfast the next morning.
  • If you’re not a fan of cheddar, feel free to swap it out for a different cheese like mozzarella or Monterey Jack.
