Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon mustard
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 4 hamburger buns
Instructions
- In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart with a spoon. Drain excess fat and transfer the beef to the crockpot.
- Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the crockpot with the beef.
- In a bowl, whisk together ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Pour the sauce mixture over the beef and vegetables. Stir to combine well.
- Cover and cook on Low for 6–8 hours or High for 3–4 hours, until the sauce thickens and the vegetables are tender.
- Give the mixture a final stir, then serve hot on hamburger buns.
Notes
- For extra flavor, add a dash of smoked paprika or hot sauce.
- You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for a lighter version.
- Toasting the buns before serving adds a nice crunch and prevents sogginess.
