Description

Looking for a quick, hearty meal that’s perfect for busy nights and beginner cooks? This Easy One-Pan Ground Beef & Potatoes recipe is the answer. Everything cooks together in a single skillet on the stovetop, making cleanup simple and the process easy to follow perfect for teens learning their way around the kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, turkey, or chicken)
  • About 12 small potatoes, diced into small pieces
  • 1 can cream soup (cream of mushroom, chicken, or celery)
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • Milk substitute option: sour cream mixed with a little water
  • Seasonings of choice (salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, Italian seasoning, etc.)
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your favorite blend)

Instructions

  1. Brown the Meat
Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground meat and cook until fully browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess grease if necessary.
  2. Cook the Potatoes
Add the diced potatoes directly into the skillet with the meat. Stir occasionally and cook for about 15–20 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork-tender. Covering the pan for part of the cooking time can help them soften faster.
  3. Make It Creamy
Once the potatoes are tender, stir in the cream soup and milk (or your milk substitute). Mix well so the sauce coats the meat and potatoes evenly.
  4. Season
Add salt, pepper, and any additional seasonings you enjoy. Taste and adjust as needed.
  5. Add Cheese & Serve
Sprinkle shredded cheese over the top. Cover the skillet for a few minutes until the cheese melts. Serve warm straight from the pan.

Notes

  • Dice potatoes into small, evenly sized pieces so they cook at the same speed.
  • If the mixture seems too thick, stir in a small splash of milk to loosen the sauce.
  • Covering the skillet while the potatoes cook helps trap steam and softens them faster.
