Description

These Easter Bunny Button Cookies are buttery, soft, and filled with colorful jam centers that make them perfect for spring and Easter celebrations. Easy to make and beautifully festive, these charming cookies bring a sweet, cheerful touch to any holiday table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup pastel-colored jam (strawberry, raspberry, or apricot)
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream the butter and sugar. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and powdered sugar together until the mixture becomes light, fluffy, and smooth.
  3. Add flavoring. Mix in the vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Make the dough. Gradually add the flour and salt, mixing until a soft dough forms. Avoid overmixing so the cookies stay tender.
  5. Shape the cookies. Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
  6. Create the “button” center. Use your thumb or the back of a spoon to gently press an indentation into the center of each cookie.
  7. Fill with jam. Spoon a small amount of pastel-colored jam into each indentation.
  8. Bake. Place the cookies in the oven and bake for 12–14 minutes, or until the edges turn lightly golden.
  9. Cool and finish. Allow the cookies to cool completely, then lightly dust with powdered sugar if desired for an extra festive touch.

Notes

  1. Use softened butter, not melted. Properly softened butter helps create the fluffy texture needed for tender cookies.
  2. Avoid overfilling the jam. Too much jam may bubble over during baking, so use only a small spoonful in each indentation.
  3. Keep cookies evenly spaced. Leaving space between dough balls ensures they bake evenly without sticking together.
